Lisfranc’s joint refers to the tarsometatarsal joint. Lisfranc’s ligament is a stout structure that runs from the medial cuneiform to the base of the second metatarsal.  The low energy type Lisfranc injury (sprain) occurs commonly in field sports when a player’s foot is stepped on while running.  High energy Lisfranc fractures/dislocations often occur in falls from a height or in head-on motor vehicle accidents.
