Hallux Valgus Repair with Mini TightRope® System

The mini TightRope is a device designed to correct bunion deformities of the foot. The surgeon begins by performing a release of the soft tissues that contribute to the deformity. A saw blade is used to remove the prominent bump on the inside of the big toe. A guidewire is then drilled from the big toe to the second toe. After confirming the position of the wire in both toes, a tunnel is then drilled over the wire through both toes. The drill is removed and a guide wire is inserted into the drill hole and used to pass the mini TightRope through the tunnel from the second toe to the big toe. A small metal button is passed on its side through the tunnel to the inner aspect of the big toe, and then flipped into place. A second button is then positioned on the outside portion of the second toe, and the sutures connecting these buttons are tied. This secures both bones together, pulling the big toe over and correcting the bunion deformity.
