Minimally Invasive Correction of a Type 2 Tailor’s Bunion Using a Compression FT Screw
James McWilliam (White Plains, NY), performs a minimally invasive surgical (MIS) correction of a type II tailor’s bunion, characterized by an increased lateral curve and a normal 4th and 5th intermetatarsal angle. After a stab incision, a controlled osteotomy of the 5th metatarsal is performed to realign the bone, followed by fixation with Compression FT screws. The MIS technique and fixation with a screw, rather than bandages and/or wires alone, allows for reduced swelling, reduced pain, and reduced risk of nonunion.
