BunionBrace™ Medial Capsule Repair Surgical Technique

Carl T. Hasselman, MD (Pittsburgh, PA), demonstrates the BunionBrace™ surgical technique to augment and reinforce a direct repair to the medial capsule during hallux valgus correction. In this case, the procedure was performed alongside a Lapidus procedure using an I-beam plate. The BunionBrace technique aims to reduce the chances of recurrence of a valgus deformity at the MTP joint. Weakness in the joint capsule can be a mechanism for recurrence of the deformity. Augmenting the capsular repair using the BunionBrace system aims to increase the strength of the primary repair.
