Microfracture surgery is an articular cartilage repair technique performed by creating small fractures in the underlying bone in order for new fibrocartilage to form. Arthrex provides products, including the PowerPick, allowing surgeons to effectively perform microfracture surgery safely and reproducibly.

Arthroscopic ankle fusion has many proven benefits when compared to open fusion techniques. Arthrex's comprehensive product line provides surgeons with all the necessary tools for safe and effective arthroscopic fusion of the ankle joint.
The ankle arthroscopy set includes multiple curettes and osteotomes to facilitate preparation of arthritic joints. The PoweRasp™ and PowerPick™ devices allow for simple cartilage removal and marrow stimulation at the distal tibia and talus.
After appropriate preparation of the fusion site, surgeons can use the GPS Targeting System to pinpoint placement of K-wires. Once the K-wires are in place, fusion can be achieved using the Arthrex 7.0 mm Compression FT Screws.

Arthroscopic Ankle Fusion

The BioUni OATS Instrument Set is the new standard for restoration of the articular surface when presented with elongated cartilage defects in the medial femoral condyle. Through a series of precisely designed cutting instruments, surgeons can replace damaged cartilage with a single, elliptical piece of viable, hyaline cartilage.

The SynergyResection™ system offers a wide variety of shaver blades and specialty resection devices to support a multitude of biologic techniques and procedures for achieving optimal results. Additionally, the SynergyResection system is compatible with attachments for arthroscopic cartilage debridement, harvesting articular cartilage or bone, and marrow-stimulation procedures.

Resection Optimized for Biologics

The PowerPick and PowerPick XL instruments provide a fast and easy method for performing marrow stimulation procedures using the SynergyResection™ shaver system. The PowerPick device has a drill depth of 4 mm and the PowerPick XL device has a drill depth of 6 mm. The additional 2 mm depth of the XL device allows for adequate penetration into subchondral bone when perpendicular positioning of the drill tip is difficult to achieve.
The PowerPick instruments have many applications, including microdrilling lesions within the knee, ankle, or shoulder prior to BioCartilage® supplementation; microdrilling the femoral notch footprint for an ACL repair to create a bleeding bone bed; and microdrilling the greater tuberosity prior to a rotator cuff repair or a superior capsular reconstruction to create bone marrow vents to allow autologous biologics to flow into the repair environment.
The PowerPick instruments are also ideal for measuring osteochondral defects by using the distal edge of the laser mark, which is 5 mm from the sheath end, as a guide.
When using an anteromedial over-the-top technique for ACL reconstruction, another useful application is to use the drill tip to mark the tunnel location within the femoral notch or footprint. By using the 2 mm wide laser mark, the approximate tunnel location can be determined through the medial portal by placing the end of the sheath at the over-the-top position. The proximal edge of the laser mark, which is 7 mm from the end of the sheath, is used to reference the center of a 10 mm tunnel in a single-bundle ACL technique.
The PowerPick instruments can clear debris from the holes they create as opposed to a chondral pick that compacts the holes with bone, thus hindering maximal bleeding. Since the PowerPick instruments are packaged sterile, they are sharp compared to worn chondral picks that pose a risk to skiving.
The PowerPick marrow stimulation instruments are offered in large-hub working lengths of 13 cm with a drill diameter of 1.5 mm. The PowerPick device is available with tip angles of 30° and 45°, while the PowerPick XL device features a 45° tip angle and 6 mm drill depth.
The PowerPick instrument is also offered for small-joint surgery with the Arthrex small-hub handpiece. The small-joint PowerPick devices have 7 cm working lengths with a drill diameter of 1 mm and are available with tip angles of 0° and 45°.
