Arthrex Hosts Hundreds of Surgeons for Fellowship Forums

Fellows

Over the last month, Arthrex has hosted the next generation of health care professionals for a series of fellowship forums. The Medical Education courses give the young surgeons the opportunity to learn from leading surgeons about the safe and effective use of Arthrex products and techniques.

“The fellows that attend our forums are the future of orthopedics,” said Christopher Adams, MD, vice president of global medical education. “We feel it is extremely important to provide them with the highest level of education before they complete their fellowship. In doing this, they can confidently step into their new practices and provide patients with the best care possible.”

Fellows Medical Education will host more than 360 health care professionals by the time the final Sports Medicine Fellowship Forum wraps up this weekend. The fellowship forums were held over four weeks and separated by sessions for foot and ankle fellows, hand and wrist fellows and two for sports medicine fellows.

In addition to the forums, the sports medicine fellows had the opportunity to attend optional sessions on hip arthroscopy, foot and ankle arthroscopy, knee arthroplasty, shoulder arthroplasty and ultrasound sessions.

The forums gave health care professionals the opportunity to listen to information sessions and case discussions of orthopedic problems and how to solve them, as well as giving them time in ArthroLab™ Naples working with our surgeon faculty on techniques.

Sheeba Joseph, MD, a fellow at the University of Connecticut, said she chose orthopedics because it has tangible results.

“You get to help people get back to an active lifestyle,” she said.

Sheeba, who studies under Arthrex faculty member Gus Mazzocca, MD, said she was excited to come to Arthrex and get lab exposure working with Arthrex products and techniques.

“It’s been great to learn about the company, the (research and development),” she said.

Brody McCullough, a technology consultant with Titan Surgical Group, LLC, said he was excited to make connections with the fellows.

“You get to put a face to a name before they move to town,” he said. “It’s nice to help broaden their knowledge with regard to the spectrum of Arthrex products they might not have been exposed to during their fellowship.”

FellowsBrody said the other benefit is that he has been able to share with his fellow what products will be available at the surgery center when she begins work at the end of her fellowship.

“She’s been asking what she can expect, which is great because she wants to know what Arthrex products they have or are using. She’s interested in the products,” he said.

Dr. Adams said the goal is to give the fellows an amazing educational experience that allows them to take what they learn and put it into practice as they start their careers.

“We hope they leave knowing how much Arthrex values Medical Education and our commitment to helping them treat their patients better,” he said.

Traditionally, the fellowship forums have been for U.S. surgeons only, but Medical Education Coordinator Santiago Oliveros said Medical Education has plans for similar forums for Brazilian surgeons in June and other Latin American surgeons in July.
