NAPLES, FL – April 16, 2012 – More than 180 community and government leaders celebrated the start of construction for Arthrex’s new $25 million state-of-the-art surgical device and implant manufacturing facility in eastern Collier County near Ave Maria – Arthrex Manufacturing East.  The positive and upbeat tone of the event focused on new job creation and healthcare innovation in Collier County.

“Arthrex remains committed to expanding in Southwest Florida and we commend Governor Rick Scott and the Florida legislators who support private enterprise and new job creation for Floridians with strong fiscal leadership,” said Reinhold Schmieding, Arthrex Founder and President, during his speech.  “This project is another step in fulfilling Arthrex’s community mission of Making People Better through healthcare innovation, new job creation and retention, employee wellbeing and charitable giving.”

Arthrex Manufacturing East will incorporate the latest in design and manufacturing technology for orthopaedic surgical devices and implants of the future.  Between 400-500 new jobs will be established at the facility by 2016.

Attendees of the groundbreaking ceremony also heard from Blake Gable, Co-President of Barron Collier Companies; Collier County Commissioner Jim Coletta; State Representative and Incoming Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives Will Weatherford; and Florida Governor Rick Scott.  Also in attendance were State Representatives Matt Hudson and Kathleen Passidomo, and Collier County Commissioners Fred Coyle, Donna Fiala and Tom Henning.

The first phase investment of 190,000 sq. ft. is scheduled to be completed in spring 2013.  The second phase build out will add an additional 120,000 sq. ft. within two to three years.

“We thank the community for their support of Arthrex and this project, and we are proud to contribute to the economic future of Ave Maria and eastern Collier County,” added Schmieding.  Schmieding also recognized Barron Collier Companies for the generous donation of 21 acres of land.
