Arthrex Employees Help Provide Real-World Training for Business Students

Two Arthrex employees recently volunteered to help provide hands-on training and education for business students in Collier County. Manager of Financial Planning and Accounting Leslie Carl and Senior Financial Operations Analyst Stacey McCurdy visited Immokalee Technical College (iTech) before the school’s winter break to introduce the Business Technology program students to Arthrex and discuss what skills and qualities iTech employers are looking for in job seekers.

In the Business Technology program, students learn about accounting, bookkeeping and office administration, including medical and legal office-specific training. The students also added self-study sessions to become certified in Microsoft and QuickBooks. During their visit, Leslie and Stacey mediated and demonstrated mock interviews with the students, giving examples of excellent interview answers and the ones they should avoid. They also discussed resume building, tips for success after being hired and effective communication skills.

Leslie shared, “It was so rewarding to see how responsive, attentive and appreciative the students were during our visit. They had great questions for us and it was apparent that these young men and women were invested in their careers and excited to learn.”

Arthrex has worked with iTech for nearly eight years, partnering on manufacturing skills training programs. The college now offers a two-year machining program that Arthrex championed with the support of other business partners.
