Retrospective Study Review: FiberTape® Sternal Closure vs Metal Wires for Enhanced Recovery and Reduced Complications
Zain Khalpey, MD, PhD (Scottsdale, AZ), presents a 2-year retrospective analysis comparing traditional steel wire closure vs FiberTape® sternal closure in 400 cardiac surgery patients. In this study, patients treated with FiberTape sternal closure demonstrated significantly reduced rates of infection and dehiscence, improved pain control, decreased opioid use, and shorter hospital stays. These findings support FiberTape sternal closure as offering superior strength, efficient closure, and cost benefits, making it a scalable solution for enhanced recovery and patient safety.
