FibuLock® Fibular Nail

In this animation, we will show an ankle fracture repair using the FibuLock fibular nail. Typically, surgical treatment of an ankle fracture involves making an incision over the broken bone and placing a large plate and screws. This large incision may cause problems with wound healing as well as discomfort with the FibuLock fibular nail. It addresses ankle fractures and allows the use of a nail that goes inside the bone with much smaller incisions. First, your surgeon uses an x ray machine to determine the location of the incision. A clamp is used to hold the broken bones in place. Next, special instruments are used to make a small hole in the bone to allow for passage of the FibuLock nail. The FibuLock nail is then slid into the bone and passed above the fracture site. Using a special screwdriver. The talons located at the top of the FibuLock nail, are deployed to allow the nail to be secured into the bone. Next special instruments are used to place screws into the bone and through the bottom of the nail to secure it in place. The FibuLock nail also allows for use of a TightRope XP device to help stabilize the ankle bones. Special instruments are used to drill a hole through the ankle bones. Next, the TightRope XP is inserted. Once the button is on the outside of the bone, the surgeon activates the mechanism, releasing the button. Then your surgeon pulls back on the handle, positioning the button against the bone. Finally, the round button is placed against the bone, and your surgeon pulls on each suture until the desired tension is achieved. This completes the ankle fracture repair. Using the FibuLock fibular nail.
