Endoscopic Gastrocnemius Recession

In this animation, we will show an endoscopic gastrocnemius recession procedure where the calf muscle is released using the EndoBlade system. The procedure is for a condition where the foot is not able to come to a neutral position, resulting in the patient looking like they are walking on their toes. The common cause is due to a tight calf muscle or gastrocnemius muscle, with the ankle held in the neutral position. Your surgeon makes a small incision on the inside part of the calf. Next, a cannula is inserted through the incision to allow access for the camera and other instruments. Next, swabs are passed through the cannula to remove any debris. Next, your surgeon inserts a camera into the cannula to see the calf muscle. With the use of a special blade, the muscle can be released under direct visualization. First one half of the muscle is released. Followed by the remaining muscle. After completing the release of the calf muscle, the instruments are removed. Lastly, your surgeon will move the ankle to demonstrate restoration of normal ankle motion. This completes the endoscopic gastrocnemius recession procedure.
