The QuickFix Small Staple enables the surgeon to perform a wedge osteotomy of the first phalanx (Akin or Moberg) quickly and efficiently. Implants are made of stainless steel and provide excellent fixation and strength while remaining low profile. The QuickFix staples are designed with 10.5 mm barbed legs, are 1 mm in diameter and 8 to 10 mm wide.

Procedure

An Akin osteotomy is a medial closing wedge osteotomy of the proximal phalanx of the great toe. It is used to correct hallux valgus interphalangeus. The Akin osteotomy is usually a component of a primary procedure in which a hallux valgus deformity is corrected. The osteotomy site is fixed with a DynaNite™ Nitinol staple, low-profile QuickFix™ cannulated screw, QuickFix Staples, or Plaple® fixation system.

Akin Osteotomy

A Moberg osteotomy is a dorsal closing wedge osteotomy of the proximal phalanx of the great toe. It is used for hallux rigidus, grades 2 and 3, often in conjunction with a cheilectomy or other joint-sparing procedure. The osteotomy can be completed with an open or MIS approach, depending on surgeon preference. In either case, fixation can be achieved with Arthrex Compression FT or PT screws or with DynaNite® Nitinol staples.
