NeedlePunch® II

An arthroscopic rotator cuff repair has now become easier, faster and more effective with the Arthrex NeedlePunch two suture passer from the leader in suture passing devices for arthroscopic and open settings. The Arthrex NeedlePunch 2nd May prove to be the most versatile method for passing anchor sutures, free end sutures, or shuttling sutures in the orthopedic community today. The NeedlePunch two is ergonomically designed with simplicity in mind for single handed use. Simple. Versatile. Effective. The NeedlePunch two is especially useful for those cases where shuttling is required. A series of FiberWire and FiberWire loops with swaged on NeedlePunch needles can be used for any suture configuration you can think of. A short loop NeedlePunch suture allows you to pass suture from an anchor already placed. A long loop suture enables you to shuttle suture when suture length is critical, or to simply place FiberWire. The NeedlePunch suture, double loaded at both ends can even be used to place continuous suture if so desired. And now NeedlePunch FiberWire is even already loaded on the fully threaded Bio-Corkscrew with two colored FiberWire, obviating the need for shuttling sutures altogether in most situations. The NeedlePunch two is simple to use to grasp tissue. Simply squeeze and hold the front jaw actuation lever, then to advance the suture, squeeze the spring action rear handle. The needle is then offloaded from the lower jaw and captured by the upper jaw, and pulled back, along with the instrument in a linear fashion. It is important not to wiggle or rotate the device at this stage, so as not to disengage the needle. Fiberwire is then placed quickly and efficiently to prepare the NeedlePunch two for use. First, push down on the push rod release lever, then open the disposable push rod and load it into the cannulation at the upper back of the handle. Lock the plastic hub into the handle by depressing the hub into the crossbar. Then take one needle end of the FiberWire NeedlePunch suture and place it point N first into the slot at the left side of the lower jaw, and gently pull it forward to the front of the lower jaw. Squeeze the back handle until a click is heard and felt. This partially advances the pushrod until it reaches the back of the NeedlePunch needle. Locking the needle into place. The NeedlePunch two is then ready for use. The NeedlePunch two can be advanced on a seven millimeters or larger cannula. Once the jaws have cleared the cannula, the jaws are opened and cuffed. Tissue is grasped decisively by squeezing the front actuation lever. The back handle is squeezed and the needle is passed through tissue and into the upper jaw. The NeedlePunch needle will curve as it is passed through the instrument. Jaws. The jaws are opened through the spring action of the back handle and the needle is pulled straight back, taking care not to rotate or wiggle the device so as not to disengage the needle from the upper jaw. The jaws are then closed to pull the device out of the cannula along with the suture. Now FiberWire can be placed with greater speed and exceptional control, with the reproducible results that orthopedists demand, along with the KingFisher, grasper, and suture retriever. Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair can now be performed in a in a manner that was only dreamed about a short time ago. The KingFisher can be used as either a CrabClaw retriever, or by pinching the suture directly with the serrated tip with the NeedlePunch two and KingFisher suture. Passing and retrieval has become simplified and versatile in this rotator cuff repair. Two fully threaded Bio-Corkscrew are first placed into bone. The FiberWire is then passed through a loop loaded into the NeedlePunch in seconds and advanced through the lateral cannula. The tissue is grasped and the appropriate suture location is determined. The handle is squeezed, deploying the FiberWire needle through cuff. The NeedlePunch is gently pulled back, and continuous delivery is conducted in the same manner using variations of techniques passing single sutures, loop shuttles, and long loop shuttles where desired. The final result is an exceptionally well repaired rotator cuff tear conducted expediently. The NeedlePunch two suture passer and KingFisher suture retriever, simplifying rotator cuff repair and many other suture passing requirements with a low profile solution for safe, reproducible suture passing every time.
