3+ years post-qualifying experience obtained at a top tier law firm or a fast-paced, corporate legal team (preferably within a medical devices / life science company). ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a motivated mid-level (minimum 3+ years PQE) lawyer.  The role will be initially hired as 12 month contract.  You will be joining our ANZ Legal & Compliance team and will report directly to the ANZ Head of Legal & Compliance.

 

This role would suit an intelligent, experienced and highly motivated lawyer who wishes to deploy their existing technical skills in an innovative and fast-paced company.  You should be proficient at contract drafting, review and negotiations and have a commercial mindset & business acumen, a strong work ethic and a proactive attitude, as well as an openness to learning different areas of law.  Any existing experience within the medical devices or life sciences industry and knowledge of the MTAA / MTANZ Codes, Therapeutic Goods Act (Australia) and Medicines Act (New Zealand) will be looked upon favourably but is not an essential requirement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assisting the Head of Legal & Compliance, ANZ with a broad range of legal matters across the region.
  • Providing high quality legal advice to the business (in particular, in relation to the MTAA/MTANZ and the TGA, but also generally in relation to all legal and corporate governance, regulatory and compliance matters);
  • Reviewing, negotiating and advising on a range of contracts and legal documents, including procurement, supply and service contracts and contracts with healthcare professionals.
  • Reviewing advertising and marketing and medical education materials.
  • Assisting with development and implementation of both ANZ and regional policies and procedures. This may include working with other functions, such as Compliance and HR, as appropriate, to develop effective training programs, as well as measures to instil a culture of compliance.
  • Providing legal & compliance training across the business’ Australian and New Zealand sites (incl Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Christchurch, Auckland).  Occasional travel within Australia and New Zealand may be required.

 

ABOUT YOU:

  • Admitted to practice in Australia
  • Minimum 3+ years post-qualifying experience (PQE) obtained at a top tier law firm or within a fast-paced, corporate legal team (ideal if within a medical devices company)
  • Experience in drafting, negotiating and advising on complex commercial transactions, contracts and other legal documents essential
  • Experience and working knowledge in the medical devices / medical technology industry and of the MTAA Code and the MTANZ Code and TGA / MA regulatory frameworks is highly desirable but not essential preferably obtained at a top tier law firm or a fast-paced, corporate legal team within a medical devices company
  • Experience and working knowledge in the medical devices / medical technology industry essential.  You will need to have a good understanding of the MTAA Code (and preferably the MTANZ COde) and TGA regulatory frameworks.
  • Prior experience in an inhouse environment would be highly considered (but is not essential)
  • Ability to manage competing priorities within a diverse workload
  • Collaborative attitude (essential to working in a small, well-coordinated team)
  • Willingness to develop legal and other professional skills
