Arthrex Announces New Vice President of Strategic Development

LarryHigginsPlease join us in welcoming Laurence Higgins, MD, to the Arthrex Leadership team! Dr. Higgins will be assuming the role of Vice President of Strategic Development. He will be responsible for global corporate strategic development, overseeing clinical and outcomes research (with Arthrex’s Surgical Outcome System™) and managing acquisitions and HCP administration relations. He will also contribute to national and international strategic development, product development, medical education and health care administration relations, among many other senior leadership responsibilities.

Dr. Higgins obtained his medical degree with Distinction in Research from the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine in Stony Brook, NY, before completing his orthopedic residency at The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY. Following his residency, he completed a sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at The Center for Sports Medicine, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Higgins achieved the position of Head of Sports Medicine at Duke University and basketball team physician during his tenure from 1998 to 2005. While at Duke, he founded the Centers for Excellence in Surgical Outcomes at Duke University Medical Center demonstrating his long-term interest in Outcomes Research.

Dr. Higgins currently serves as the Chief of the Brigham & Women’s Hospital Sports Medicine and Shoulder Service in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery in Boston, MA. In his current role, he developed world-class and internationally-renowned programs in these subspecialties. In 2015 he graduated from the Sloan School of Management at MIT earning his MBA degree, to further his impact upon value driven health care. He has authored over 175 peer reviewed publications and chapters and has led both prospective and retrospective clinical studies. Recently, his work has focused on the cost arena, including cost effectiveness, process improvement and bundled payment strategies.

Dr. Higgins will be relocating to Naples, FL this May where he will work at Arthrex’s global headquarters and continue part time practicing medicine.
