George Rego Honored by the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants

GeorgeRegoCongratulations to Senior Clinical Specialist George Rego, PA-C, MPAS, MPH, who was named the Bob Scully Physician Assistant of the Year at the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants (FAPA) annual summer conference last week.

This honor is given to one of FAPA’s 8,000 members each year who has demonstrated exemplary service to the PA profession and the community.

“It was my honor and duty to nominate my mentor George Rego for the Bob Scully PA of the Year award,” said FAPA President Mike Nuccio, MPAS, PA-C. “George was a leader in the profession even before he graduated from the University of Florida PA School and has worked tirelessly throughout his career and as a FAPA leader. He has mentored many PAs and helped make us all better in our profession.”

As a senior clinical specialist on Arthrex’s Medical Education team, George teaches orthopedic surgical techniques to surgeons and other health care professionals from around the world daily in ArthroLab™ Naples. He is also responsible for training agency representatives to serve as technical consultants in the operating room environment. 

George has served many leadership roles within FAPA including vice president, president and the chair of the organization’s Political Action Committee.

“George is the most senior member of our Sports Medicine and Arthroplasty Medical Education team, and one of the most senior members in the department,” said Medical Education Manager Tim Thompson. “As such, he is trusted by our team, as well as other departments at Arthrex, for expert advice and participation in all areas of education. Being recognized by FAPA as a thought leader amongst his colleagues throughout the state is a testament to his work ethic and dedication to our profession.”
