High School Students Visit Arthrex to Better Engineer Their Futures

High School Students Visit Arthrex to Better Engineer Their Futures

JAPanel

Arthrex recently hosted a group of students with the NAF (National Academy Foundation) Engineering Academy at Palmetto Ridge High School as part of Junior Achievement (JA) of Southwest Florida’s Job Shadow Program. Product Manager Rick Taft (who organized the visit), Product Engineer Associate Joshua Michalik, Medical Visualization Supervisor Patrick Eckhold and Medical Education Manager Tim Thompson presented to the students about their roles at Arthrex and how they each contribute to the product development process and helping surgeons treat their patients better. The students also participated in a hands-on activity with real Arthrex devices.

Josh said, “There are so many different opportunities at Arthrex. We talked through every discipline and how they can start aligning themselves with the requirements in job listings as they work through school.”

Each speaker stressed the importance of students creating their own, unique paths to success and the students left Arthrex with a better understanding of how to target their studies toward a future career in engineering. Nick Garcia, a student in the JA program, shared, “Today helped me understand the job market for this field, and how not everyone comes in with the exact same background. The hands-on activity was also different from anything else we’ve done.”

John Telischak, program manager at JA, shared, “I was so impressed that the professionals took time out of their day to speak to us and reflect on their own career paths with the students. It made me wish I had done something like this when I was in high school. I want to thank them and all of Arthrex for making this visit possible.”

Arthrex is proud to support educative programs with organizations such as JA to provide its future workforce with positive experiences to learn and grow. To learn more about JA, click here.
