5 Questions with Senior Travel Specialist Jac Thomas
Whether Arthrex employees have questions about booking hotel rooms for a conference or need an urgent flight change, Senior Travel Specialist Jac Thomas can help. In her 5 Questions interview, Jac explains her role in the Travel department and what she loves about working at Arthrex.
What does a typical day at Arthrex look like for you?
Every day starts with reviewing emails that come to Arthrex Travel and taking care of any urgent requests. The Travel team handles emails, phone calls and walk-in requests to book domestic and international travel. Our team also travels to provide on-site support for large events like the Academy of Arthrex Technology Consultants (AATC) and the annual meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). Our travelers contact us for new reservations, changes, or if they find themselves stuck somewhere. Our job is to get our travelers where they need to be.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
As everyone knows, traveling can be a challenge. I enjoy supporting our road warriors, who travel frequently to take care of Arthrex business. Providing assistance with booking trips and support while on the road allows them to focus on their jobs instead of getting to where they need to be and home again. I also love traveling to our off-site meetings to provide support and getting a bigger sense of how Arthrex is Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™. For me, helping a traveler who needs assistance – whether it is grabbing that last seat on the next flight when a flight has been cancelled or booking a room for someone when almost every room in town is sold out – really gives me a sense of accomplishment and makes me very happy to come to work every day.
What has been a highlight during your time at Arthrex?
Going to AATC in Dallas in 2016 was wonderful because I got to see firsthand how Arthrex’s outstanding operation carries over to off-site events. The scope, complexity and scale of planning an event of this size was apparent and it made me so proud to be an Arthrex employee.
What is the best advice you’ve received throughout your career?
The best advice I’ve received is to focus on my job and not get distracted by comparing myself to others. It focuses me on being happy with what I have and how I’m performing.
What do you do in your downtime?
I like to hang out with my husband and two sons who both work at Arthrex. I also enjoy vacationing and playing with my German Shepherds, Roxie and Samson.
