Arthrex's Connection to the 2014 Winter Olympics
Arthrex Meeting and Event Coordinator Kathleen Meek has a special connection to the Sochi Winter Olympics. Her brother Patrick will be competing in the men's 5,000 meter speed skating event on the U.S. Olympic Team with the possibility of also competing in the 10,000 meter long track.
Following in the footsteps of their father and grandfather, Patrick has been a speed skater since the age of two. His father was a coach and national team member, and his grandfather skated competitively at the club level. A member of the U.S. National Team since 2006, this will be Patrick's first Olympics. He lives in Park City, UT where he's been training for this moment at the Utah Olympic Oval in Salt Lake City.
When he's not training, Patrick works at the Waldorf Astoria Park City as part of the Team USA Career Program. The hotel's parent company, Hilton, is currently featuring Patrick's story in a commercial airing on network TV.
Kathleen's parents will be
traveling to Sochi, Russia to cheer Patrick on while Kathleen, and her sister
Elizabeth, will join friends and family back in their hometown of St.
Louis.
"I have truly
appreciated the support that I have received from the Arthrex community,"
says Kathleen. "It is a very proud moment for my entire family and I am
proud to work for a company that supports its employees' family
achievements."
The 5,000 meter speed skating
event will take place on Saturday,
February 8. Tune in to NBC at
6:30 a.m. ET to watch Patrick go for the gold!
