What does a typical day at Arthrex look like for you?

When I wake up in the morning, the first thing that I do is make sure I’m in positive spirits. My team members are the first people who employees and visitors see when they come through the doors at Arthrex, so I not only want them to know they’re safe, but that they’re welcome. The entire team has a positive attitude when people come through our doors.

Once all the contractors are signed in for the day, security badges are distributed, and I have to thank the night shift for making the badges to speed up the process! We then send out an email to let key security personnel know who is on-site each day. While one security officer is doing that, the others are checking the doors, making sure everything is safe and that everyone on campus has signed in.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love that [President & Founder] Reinhold Schmieding’s vision is to help people, which we do by making products for surgeons around the world. My vision at a very young age was to help kids that were going through abuse, as I was at the time. I love people and it’s always been in my nature to do whatever I can to help. By wanting to help others, my vision aligns with Reinhold’s and I’m so happy I get to be a part it. I’m very proud to be helping people by working at one of the best companies in the world!

What has been a highlight during your time with Arthrex?

During New Employee Orientation, I was given the opportunity to fly to Florida and meet with several of the caring people I now call coworkers. I immediately felt welcome and very appreciated.

I’m a single mother raising a teenage son, and one concern I had when I was hired was needing to take time off to get my son moved into college in another state. I know it’s pretty common for leave requests when starting a new job to be denied, but when I asked my supervisor about taking time away to take care of my son’s move, I was quickly given the time off I had requested and assured it wasn’t a problem.

This is just one of the many benefits that I have received while working at Arthrex. This kind treatment is far above and beyond what I’ve so often experienced while working for other companies. My appreciation for that kindness is immeasurable.

Our core value is Making People Better. How has Arthrex made you better?

Arthrex is truly a warm and welcoming place, and I’m made better by getting to practice the simple advice my grandmother passed onto me years ago. She often told me, “It doesn’t cost you anything to speak kindly and look people in the eye. Treat people like you want to be treated and you can't go wrong.”

By greeting coworkers and guests at Arthrex each day, I practice these things and get to see the positivity returned by my teammates. I know that heeding her advice makes me a better employee and person in general. I’m thankful that my role at Arthrex gives me the chance to do that each day. I hope to work here for a long time and continue helping make people's lives better and making myself better.

What do you do in your down time?

My 18-year-old son recently went away to college, so I was spending most of my time off with him and helping him get prepared to move. Now that he is at school, I enjoy working out, reading and working with young people on building their self-esteem and self-worth. Plus, my wonderful fiancé and I are renovating our home, which has been a lot of fun.
