DEX Team Helps Build a Better Community

We’re excited to highlight the Distal Extremities (DEX) team of engineers and project managers and their commitment to Making People Better during a build day with Habitat for Humanity on June 27. The team of 22 split into groups that worked on different projects: painting, spackling, laying tile and removing and repairing a roof damaged by Hurricane Irma.

The DEX team was in search of a team-building event when Senior Director of Engineering Karen Gallen suggested a Habitat build day.

DEX2“There was an overwhelming response to it,” said Karen, “During the event, it was nice seeing everyone working together to accomplish a goal. Most of the tasks that needed to be done were not things we do every day, so it was enjoyable seeing the group help each other.”

Senior Director of Product Management for Distal Extremities Pete Denove helped paint and lay tile floors. He shared, “The entire team had fun and realized that, even in one morning, we can make a difference if we’re lending a hand.”

DEX3The DEX team worked on four different houses during their half-day of volunteering, making a significant impact to the organization and the homeowners. More teams, including the Shoulder Arthroplasty team this past spring, have been dedicating their team-building events to volunteer work and reflecting our core values in the community.

DEX Product Management Specialist Carolyn Brunner led a group who helped caulk, spackle nail insets and paint the doors and baseboards in one of the homes. She reflected on the event, saying, “We had a blast even in the heat of the summer. It’s an awesome feeling to be a part of an amazing organization that helps so many in our community!”

Karen shared that the DEX team is already eager to work with Habitat for Humanity again. Pete added, “The Habitat folks seemed really appreciative of the extra help, so that makes it even more rewarding for us.”

We’re proud to have employees who are committed to improving our community. Thank you to the DEX team for braving the summer heat to make a positive impact!
