Midtarsal Fracture Repair

The “midtarsal” bones are considered the navicular, cuboid, and three cuneiform bones.  Isolated fractures of these bones are rare.  They are usually associated with high energy injuries to the midtarsal joint or crush injuries.  The classification of midtarsal fractures is based on the mechanism of injury associated with the direction of the applied force.  Procedures developed to treat these injuries center around addressing soft tissue, ligament and tendon disruptions.  The goal of fracture repair is to restore articular alignment and the anatomical arches of the midfoot.  Arthrex makes a variety of low profile plates and compression screws for surgeons to use in these procedures.
